Canal Side Parks

Three Canal Side Parks, Kennelley Park, Packett's Landing Wharf on the south bank of the Canal and the North Bank Canal Park are pleasant areas for strolling, brown-bagging, enjoying an ice cream cone, boating and people watching. On Thursdays, from June through mid August starting at 7pm, Kennelley Park's gazebo is the site of a popular concert and entertainment hour. Our own Fairport Fire Department Band is a favorite performer. The North Bank Canal Park is an attractive area with a brick sidewalk, benches and plenty of grass. Look for the large compass rose embedded in the sidewalk!

An almost continuous path runs along the north bank of the Canal through Monroe County and beyond. The Towpath, paved in some areas, is popular for biking, walking and roller-blading.

Boating on the Erie Canal

Boating on the Erie Canal is an increasing popular pastime, you can launch your canoe from Perinton Park on Fairport Road, larger crafts from Ayrault Road and small canoes from the Village at the north west bank near the lift bridge. Boat docking is available on both sides of the canal in the center of the village from June through October for very reasonable rates. Water and electric hookups are available to boaters as well as pump outs, rest rooms and shower facilities. Docking at the Wharf is limited to one 48 hour stay every 30 days.

Clearance under the Village lift bridge is 6 feet when lowered and 15 feet when raised. Call 223-9412, or the Barge Canal Regional Office at 272-3490, to find out when the bridge will be raised.

Tour boats operate daily tours from the Village along the Erie Canal. Call for daily departures.
